ROUND #3
Round #4 started off slowly and was a little more frustrating for both James McCarthy and Chad Pasowisty. Suspension chasing took on a new meaning as both James and Chad searched for a "good" set up. After Saturday practice the mood was not upbeat. One positive was that we were certainly low on horsepower which is not normally a good thing but since losing first place due to a .1 of a horsepower over on class horsepower, the Cycle Works/McCarthy ZX10R was making a solid 164 horsepower on pump gas...a much better number for the entire team.
Sunday started off with practice and suspension set up changes...this went much better than Saturday. So much better that Chad went out in Pro Heavyweight and easily won sliding his way to a solid first place. James Then raced in Senior Open. After a great start James easily lead the race until lap 5 when the rear tire would not gain traction in any turn...not good on a bike capable of 181 horspower. Kel Davidson made n easy pass to go on to win the race and James cruised to an easy second place...not the ending expected but still a solid points finish.
Chad then raced Pro Superbike on a super soft Pirelli which was the only rear tire available for the team. The selection was a very poor choice for Chad as he had a great start but finished third in a race that seen him sliding and spinning at every turn losing precious time. The team also misscalculated the amount of VP MR9 race fuel...still the team went away from the weekend very excited about the last race in Calgary which is September 16-17.
ROUND #2
Rounds #3 seen the addition of Chad Pasowisty to the Cycle Works/McCarthy Racing Team. Chad is in the unt for the #1 Superbike plate and the top position in Heavyweight. The Edgewater B.C. native is an ex-national racer and ex-local champ. Chad and Norm bring a ton of skill, talent and knowledge to the ever learning team. Chad added a new dimension to the team which increased the work load but the result was instant success. With Ryan and Norm making the suspension adjustments the first sessions were quick for both riders. Chad was already running in the 1:21's in his first ride on the Ryan Coughlan built ZX10R.
The first race for Chad seen him win the Heavyweight Pro race and he easily ran low 1:19's. Until the dyno came into play that is.
Chad's Cycle Works/McCarthy ZX10R showed 170.1 rwhp on it's last dyno push. Even with .1 of a horsepower over the limit Chad's amazing ride was then turned into a 3rd place finish after the penalty of blowing over on horsepower for this particular class. Chad then went on to finish second in Pro Superbike after Peter Holzinger who was solid throughout the entire race.
2005 Calgary Parts Canada Superbike Nationals

James in action after passing two National riders.

The Friday started off very well. National tech inspection loved our prepped ZX10R so much that they listed ours as one to visit for attention to detail and innovation. The National dyno boys also loved the power this monster makes. The dyno operator actually laughed and said "this is a top five bike anywhere, if you can't place that high then you should change your career". I then explained to him that this was only a very expensive hobby and we just show up to dyno and tech. Ryan Coughlan makes the safest race bike out there, and every innovation is his own.
The National round did not go according to plan however many racing lessons were learnt over the three days. The Cycle Works Racing Team is looking forward to the next round and better results are coming soon!
Check out TSN and the Calgary round coming soon!

New season and new look and race number for #88 James McCarthy
The first round of the 2005 CMRA race season went very well for all competitors. The CMRA did a fantastic job and the event went without serious incident.
Ace race mechanic Ryan Coughlan built the perfect weapon for racing Calgary's 2.5 mile circuit. The Kawasaki ZX10R was making so much power that skateboard tape was needed to keep James in the riders seat. The new engine Ryan fitted was flawless and the new Traxxion Dynamics/Penske race suspension worked better than expected.
The Superbike race started off well until shifting problems ended the Cycle Works Racing team with an unwanted DNF. The Senior Open race went better and a third place was salvaged. When asked what happened James said "I'm not sure exactly, the bike worked perfectly all weekend and then we couldn't shift into third and fourth. I had a great start and was in fourth place comfortably until the issue. Ryan figured out the problem and will have parts to fix the issue come June 4/5 race weekend...all in all, a credit to Ryan and the Cycle Works team!
The team is busily getting ready for the next race weekend. All bike problems are now resolved and new race bits have the team certain of greater success.
Special thanks to Cycle Works Motorsports! Also, huge thanks to Ryan Coughlan! Ryan makes the safest bike out there and his attention to detail is second to none. Everything that is great about the Cycle Works Race ZX10R is due to Ryan and his massive efforts!
